If you thought scoring two goals – one being an overhead kick – and assisting another against Juventus was enough, you were wrong.

With the first legs of all four Champions League quarter-final ties having been played, the time came for UEFA to announce the Player of the Week for their popular tournament. The confirmation came on Friday and many were left shocked by the result.

The reason is why is Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was not the winner. Instead, this acknowledgment went to Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah.

In all fairness to the Egyptian attacker, he put in a stellar display in the last eight. He scored the opening goal in their 3-0 victory over Man City and set-up Sadio Mane to net the third goal of that unforgettable victory.

However, many would argue that Salah’s achievement pales in comparison to what Ronaldo did against Juventus. Despite playing away, the 33-year-old had a hand in all three goals, scoring a brace and assisting the last goal in the 3-0 triumph.

His second goal of the night remains fresh in the memories of football fans. The Portuguese ace scored with a spectacular overhead kick to earn the applause of the Bianconeri fans.

Nonetheless, he was not named the Champions League Player of the Week. Cristiano earned only 35% of the votes, with Salah racking in 57%.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner came in second in the poll, followed by Bayern Munich’s James Rodriguez with 5% of the votes. In fourth was Gerard Pique with only 4% after helping Barcelona to a 4-1 Camp Nou win over Roma.
