The Citizens' top scorer this season is sadly unavailable for the Champions League quarter-final trip to Anfield.

The excitement of Tuesday’s Champions League fixtures is behind us. This means fans have a new thrilling encounter to look forward to: Liverpool vs Man City.

The only two remaining Premier League sides will lock horns in a highly-anticipated quarter-final tie. Anfield will be the venue for the first leg before the return fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens’ scintillating form this season will have them as favorites, but the soon-to-be Premier League champion has been rocked by an injury blow. Their top scorer this season, Sergio Aguero, will miss this game after failing to recover in time.

The Argentine has been struggling with a knee injury which forced him to miss the recent international break, but there was hope he would return in time for this game. On Tuesday, though, it was confirmed that he would not travel with the squad to Merseyside.

This is a huge blow for Guardiola’s side. His tally over 37 goals in all competitions shows how important he is to Man City.

The 29-year-old averages a goal every 96.5 minutes. In comparison, Liverpool’s star player this season, Mohamed Salah, averages a goal every 90.4 minutes.

While Kun has seven fewer goals than the Egyptian ace, it should be noted that Aguero has played five fewer games than the former Chelsea reject.

Fortunately, Gabriel Jesus is back and scoring in time to replace his South American counterpart. Whether the Brazilian can offer the same threat in front of goal is remained to be seen.
