Mourinho was not going to leave this be, was he?

After Marcus Rashford’s heroics against bitter rivals of Manchester United, Liverpool, Frank de Boer publicly slated Jose Mourinho for his reluctance to give the youngster more playing time. Rashford’s inclusion in the starting 11 in Saturday’s game was his first since the beginning of the year.

Prior to that, the 20-year-old sensation had been sidelined with an injury and eventually lost his spot in the starting lineup following Martial’s uprise in form and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January. Against Liverpool, the Red Devils’ academy graduate grabbed two goals to clinch the win for his side and this prompted de Boer to question Jose’s managerial skills.

"It's a pity that the manager is Mourinho because he's an English player and you want him to be given time," the ex-Crystal Palace and Ajax boss declared as a pundit on BT Sport.

"He can make mistakes but Mourinho is not like that and if he has one or two not good games then he puts him out.

"He's very young, he needs games. But he's so talented and you want to see him play every week."

Nonetheless, the combative Jose Mourinho addressed the issue in his pre-match presser ahead of side’s UCL knock stage clash with Sevilla on Tuesday.

“I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League – Frank de Boer. What he was saying was not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me, because the most important thing for me is to win.

“If he was coached by Frank he would lose because he lost every game. I try to give the best to the kid.

“I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that was responsible for his formation, to Louis van Gaal] who was responsible for his first season.

“But if you go to his numbers and how many matches he played with me last season and this, I would say probably he’s in the top five players with most matches in the two seasons.”

Frank de Boer was in charge of Crystal Palace back in September but faced the sack after losing four out of five games.
