The Citizens are currently on course to lay waste some big Premiership records owned by the Blues.

On Sunday, Manchester City will have the opportunity to extend their domineering campaign should they win against Antonio Conte’s side. The Italian manager who was revered for his heroics in his debut season is currently under-fire for obvious reasons.

His Chelsea team currently sits outside the top four in their insipid title defense campaign and risk missing out on Champions League qualification with the teams above them fighting tooth and nail to consolidate their positions. However, there is the possibility European qualification wouldn’t be the only thing Chelsea could miss out on with EPL champion-elect, Man City, closing in on some records owned by the Londoners in the competition.

Listed below are the six records Pep’s men can topple by the end of the 2017/2018 season.

  • In the 2004/2005 season, Chelsea became the team to have won the most points in a single Premier League season. Then under the management of Jose Mourinho, the Blues racked up 91 points from 38 games. With 75 points after 28 games, Pep Guardiola needs 16 more points from a possible 30 to match his arch-nemesis’ personal best in the league.
  • The 2016/2017 title winning season for the Blues was achieved from a record 30 wins out of 38. Manchester City currently has 24 wins out of 28 games and only needs seven more from the 10 games left to become the sole bearer of this landmark.

  • The record of most away wins is also at stake. The Blues won 15 games on the road in the title-winning 2004/2005 season. Should Manchester City win all of its five away games left, they will finish the season with 16 wins from 19.
  • Chelsea recorded the best goal difference of +71 under Carlo Ancelotti in the 2009/2010 season. Manchester City currently has +62 goals with 10 matches left on the roster. Pep’s side has averaged 2.9 goals per game and has had a concession rate of 0.7 so far.
  • The record of most home goals in a season is also attributed to the Blues. The Londoners netted 68 times at the Stamford Bridge to secure the EPL title in the 200/2010 season. Man City currently has 50 goals from 14 home games and have four more games to play at the Etihad after hosting Chelsea on Sunday.
  • 102 was the total number of goals scored by Chelsea in the 2009/2010 season – the best tally in the history of the English Premier League. Manchester City is 21 goals away from being on par with the record. The Citizens have 10 more games to try and eclipse Chelsea’s achievement.
