Real Madrid will aim to get one over Leganes when they visit the Estadio Municipal de Butarque to play their game in hand.

La Liga’s defending champions were scheduled to take on Leganes in December 2017 but failed to do so as they had to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup during that same period. In January, Zinedine Zidane’s men were left bemused after falling to a shock 1-2 defeat at home to the same opponents in the Copa Del Rey, having won the first leg away by a lone goal.

The Whites were subsequently eliminated from the competition via the away-goal rule. But on Wednesday, Los Blancos will have the chance to avenge their surprise exit from the Kings Cup, while simultaneously aiming to leapfrog third-placed Valencia.

MATCH PREVIEW

At the moment, the morale is generally great in the Real Madrid camp considering they are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions. Bar the 2-2 draw away to Levante, the Merengues have won big against Valencia, Real Sociedad, PSG and Real Betis, respectively.

They have racked up 20 goals in those games and have also conceded nine in the process. It is not surprising that Real Madrid has improved drastically in the attacking sense as compared to the start of the season, and the club has no one other than the talismanic Cristiano Ronaldo and the in-form Marco Asensio to thank for this change in fortune.

The latter has been particularly superb in recent times looking back at his performances against PSG and Real Betis. The 22-year-old midfielder took his goal tally in La Liga to six with his brace at Betis and, as a result, is expected to gain a spot in the starting lineup in the upcoming game against Leganes. It is worth noting that he scored Los Blancos' only goal in the Copa Del Rey away game back in January.

Although Real Madrid is enjoying a purple patch lately, the same cannot be said for the Estadio Municipal de Butarque outfit. The hosts have failed to win any of their last three La Liga games and, as a result, have dropped to the bottom half of the table.

To compound to this poor piece of statistic, the Legionaries have also failed to score in their last four matches across all competitions. Unless another surprise win is on the cards for Leganes, Real Madrid could easily cruise to another big win, having previously won five of their last six games against the same side with three or more goals margin.
