But they now face investigation for their action in Spain, nonetheless.

West Brom’s 2017/18 season just got worse as the club was forced to deal with embarrassment involving a few of their players. Four senior members of the Hawthorns’ squad allegedly stole a taxi in Barcelona during the team’s Spanish stay and are now facing investigation from the police.

The last-placed English side traveled to the Catalan region for training but saw Jonny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore, and Boaz Myhill run into trouble with the cops. Those four players have been accused of nicking a cab during a boozy night out.

This incident occurred before dawn on Thursday, with the quartet going out. They took a taxi to McDonald’s in the Olympic Port before taking off with the car without the driver – he was in the restaurant – to get back to their five-star hotel.

The players then abandoned the car to make it to their beds but were taken to the police station in the morning by cops after the vehicle was identified and reported by a receptionist. None of them were charged and were thus released after being questioned.

The taxi was returned to the owner a few hours after the incident had occurred. The West Brom men also issued an apology and are now facing internal disciplinary procedures.

“We freely acknowledge and apologise for the break of curfew which we accept represented a breach of the standards of professionalism required of us as representatives of West Bromwich Albion,” said the players who are now likely to go two weeks without pay as punishment.

Despite this incident, they are tipped to feature on Saturday in the FA Cup clash with Southampton. Pressure continues to pile on the team and manager Alan Pardew, as he has managed only one win in their last 13 league games.
