There has been only one team capable of eliminating Pep's teams in a Round of 16. Will the Spanish boss return to greatness this year?

Pep Guardiola's managing career has quickly been deemed as one of the most successful in history, and as a two-time UEFA Champions League winner as a coach, he's certainly earned his spot among the best in the business.

Looking back at his coaching career, Guardiola has had his fair share of scares in the first KO stage of this competition, especially struggling to win away games. With Manchester City's first game coming in just a few hours, we thought it would be a good idea to check how dominant his teams have been both home and away.

PEP AWAY FROM HOME: Two wins, four draws and two losses

The road to his UEFA Champions League titles was paved with a few struggles. In the 2008-09 campaign, Barcelona travelled to Lyon and walked away with a 1-1 draw, while the 2010-11 KO stage began with Pep's first loss in a Round of 16 clash, which they would eventually overcome.

While he kept a flawless record as Bayern's boss in this stage, his luck eventually ended with their 3-1 loss and elimination against Monaco last year.

PEP AT HOME: Guardiola's teams boast near-perfect record in this stage

All of Pep's teams have managed to make the most of their home games when entering two-legged ties, even though Manchester City was the only one to drop such a lead. Guardiola can brag about an almost perfect record in UCL Round of 16 games, since Arsenal is the only team to have walked away with points when Pep's teams played as hosts. All in all, Guardiola's squads have outscored their opponents 36-10 when playing at home in Round of 16 games.

So there you have it. Pep Guardiola's teams have made it past their opponents in seven of eight Round of 16 ties. Manchester City's efforts to show that last year was just an accident will make Basel more cautious, but if they want to hurt the Citizens' chances of success, Tuesday's game is the time to do so.
