The center back entered a war of words following Los Blaugranas' victory over Los Periquitos in the 2017-18 Copa del Rey Quarterfinals.

Once again, Gerard Piqué may get in trouble for his controversial statements.

The Spanish center back is yet again involved in an investigation that could lead to a ban, following his comments after the Copa del Rey match against Espanyol.

The footballer downplayed Espanyol's relevance in Catalunya by referring to the team as "Espanyol from Cornellá", as if that part of town didn't belong to the Catalan community. According to the report, these words could be considered as an incitement to violence, forcing the tournament's authorities to decide if those comments are worthy of a ban.

Things escalated after Espanyol filed a complaint after the player's words. That complaint also included Busquets' words against Los Periquitos, where he criticized them for celebrating in excess their first-leg win against Los Blaugranas in the quarter final stage of the competition.

Piqué didn't help his cause by repeating the same statement on Monday, moments after he signed a contract extension with the club.

The tournament's judge will have to determine if these actions are worthy of a ban. If that's the case, Piqué and Busquets could miss the first leg of their semi-final tie against Valencia, scheduled for Thursday.
