The team, which is yet to be named, will begin playing in the American top flight in the 2020 MLS season.

After four years of announcing his plans to bring football back to the city of Miami, David Beckham has finally been awarded a license to own his MLS franchise.

The former English footballer will bring football back to the city after the MLS gave way for one more expansion team that's set to play in a brand new 25,000-seat venue. The team should begin playing in the 2020 season.

Miami previously hosted an MLS team, the Miami Fusion. Nevertheless, the team folded due to lack of interest by Miamians, who recorded some of the worst attendances in league history.

"Our pledge to our fans in Miami and around the world is simple: your team will always strive to make you proud on the pitch, our stadium will be a place that you cherish visiting, and our impact in the community and on South Florida’s youth will run deep," Beckham stated during the press conference.

Miami's team will become the MLS' 25th franchise, following the quick expansion the league has experienced. Thanks to Beckham's contract as a footballer, he acquired the rights for a franchise for just $25M, which is a bargain for the current price paid to own a team.
