Watch as match official Tony Chapron sent off Diego Carlos in a moment of madness during Sunday's Ligue 1 tie.

Meet Tony Chapron – a referee who has caused quite a stir in Ligue 1 over the weekend. He officiated Sunday’s clash between Nantes and PSG, which Les Parisiens won 1-0, grabbing the headlines for his moment of madness during stopping time.

The referee was caught on camera kicking out at a Nantes player before sending him off. Diego Carlos was the victim, as he was involved in an accidental collision with the official.

Chapron had cut in front of the Brazilian who was running back towards his goal during a PSG counterattack. The referee thus tripped and fell to the floor before throwing a kick at the defender.

The referee then issued the player his second yellow card of the game, leaving Carlos infuriated. Team-mates and PSG captain Marquinhos stepped in to restrain the player.

This quickly became a very popular topic on Twitter, with users trolling the referee for his awful decision. Check out the best jokes in the tweets below.
