Guardiola is trying to sign the Chilean in the January transfer window, but a summer switch could be better.

It’s no secret: Alexis Sanchez’s departure from the Emirates is only a matter of time. With his contract expiring this summer and the player unwilling to extend, the Chilean will remain a Gooner until the end of this season at the very most.

Man City is favorite to land the South American attacker, as Pep Guardiola is a known admirer of the former Barcelona ace. A recent report by the Mirror claims that the league leader is plotting to sign Alexis as early as the winter transfer window.

Injury to Gabriel Jesus has left Guardiola short on options in attack. Sergio Aguero is the only reliable center-forward fit to play, leaving the Citizens short on option.

However, according to Di Marzio, Sanchez stands to benefit more from a summer move instead of a January transfer. Despite wanting an Eithad switch as soon as possible, a Bosman transfer will be more profitable for the 29-year-old.

Should Sanchez put pen to paper on a Man City deal in the current transfer window, he will earn $20m in sign-on fee. If he waits until he is a free agent, though, that figure will rise to approximately $41m.

His salary will remain at roughly $18m per year regardless, leaving Sanchez with a lot to ponder over. Unfortunately, Alexis will not have much time to think, as Arsenal’s clash with Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final is right around the corner.
