  • The Reds haven't failed to progress beyond the third round since January 2011 when they lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford
  • Everton, meanwhile, have been knocked out at this stage in two of the last three seasons
  • This will be the 24th meeting between Liverpool and Everton in the FA Cup
  • Liverpool have won ten, drawn six, and lost seven of those meetings
  • However, this is the first time the Merseyside rivalsare meeting in the 3rd round since the 1931/32 term
  • The last meeting between Liverpool and Everton in the FA Cup was a semi-final at Wembley in 2012

Preview

Liverpool come into this game having to make do without two key players. Both Mohamed Salah, who is in contention for the Golden Boot this season, and Philippe Coutinho, who has been widely linked with a move to Barcelona, have been ruled out of this fixture due to injury. Other absentees include skipper Jordan Henderson and defender Alberto Moreno. However, new signing Virgil van Dijk could make his debut after sealing a mega-money move from Southampton earlier this month.

As for Everton, Leighton Baines, Ramiro Funes Mori and Seamus Coleman are all still on the treatment table, and Ross Barkley is reportedly moving closer towards a winter move to Chelsea.

The earlier meeting between the two famous rivals ended as a 1-1 draw under somewhat controversial circumstances back on December 10th, and it goes without saying that Liverpool, who will have felt frustrated by the penalty decision, will be keen on getting some revenge on Sam Allardyce's side in tonight's anticipated clash.
