CR7 named Best European Sportsperson 2017

How CR7 won Best European Sportsperson 2017 award

December 29, 2017 By Ali M.
The Real Madrid superstar beat Formula One's Lewis Hamilton and tennis icon Roger Federer.

Cristiano Ronaldo, despite losing to Barcelona in his club’s final game of 2017, ended the year on a high note by winning another individual prize. The Portuguese ace was named Best European Sportsperson 2017 in what has been a successful 12 months.

After winning La Liga, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and then the FIFA Club World Cup; the 32-year-old went on to win several individual prizes. These include the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year, and a fifth Ballon d’Or.

This latest prize, awarded by the Polish PAP agency, was handed to him after he had won a poll determined by 26 news providers from across the world. Ronaldo fended off competition from household sportsmen in the continent.

The Portugal captain beat the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Roger Federer, who came in second and third respectively. Cristiano won 159 points, finishing 16 points ahead of the British Formula 1 driver.

Federer trailed Ronaldo by a staggering 35 points despite, with the Swiss tennis icon racking up 124 points. In fourth came Rafael Nadal with 113.

Cristiano has been struggling to score in La Liga this season, with Los Blancos as a whole failing to impress this term. However, none can rule out Ronaldo bursting back into form in 2018.
