Mascherano will join Chinese Super League club

Mascherano will leave Barcelona to join Chinese Super League side

December 18, 2017 By Oscar Rojas
The Argentine midfielder asked Barcelona to let him leave this winter in order to get in shape to play the World Cup with La Albiceleste.

Javier Mascherano's days as a Barcelona player may come to an end shortly, as the Argentinean footballer has allegedly agreed terms to sign with Chinese Super League club Hebei Fortune.

After an exec for Tianjin Quanjian dismissed Mascherano's chances of signing with them, the Argentine is set to join compatriot and former PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi with the "Samba Kings". Gervinho and Stephane Mbia are also part of the team, coached by Manuel Pellegrini since August 2016.

Reports coming in from Spain reveal that Hebei Fortune will pay Barcelona €12 million for the player's services. Added to that, Mascherano will sign a two-year deal with the club, which will earn him seven million euros per season.

Mascherano's lack of minutes under Ernesto Valverde forced him to ask for an exit this winter. Previously, the player had admitted his need to play regularly if he wanted to get in shape to the World Cup next summer, and he expects to have his need for minutes satisfied by the Chinese side.
