Cristiano suggested that the Blaugrana should honor Los Blancos for their Club World Cup triumph when the two meet at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s next game in La Liga is the highly anticipated clash with Barcelona in El Clasico. Los Blancos, who knows they must win in order to avoid falling further behind in the title race, heads into this game fresh off their FIFA Club World Cup success.

The Champions League holder beat Gremio 1-0 to lift the title thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. After the final whistle, the Portuguese ace suggested that their Clasico rival should give them a guard of honor after being crowned champion of the world.

Barcelona quickly answered back, and their response was not the bit surprising. Director Guillermo Amor insisted that the Spanish Primera Division leader will not give Real Madrid a guard of honor when they meet at Santiago Bernabeu for one reason.

“We make it clear that we only do this when we participate in the competition,” Guillermo said (as per the Daily Mail).

“When we compete in the competition, we will do it but that is not the case. That's the way it is.”

Manager Ernesto Valverde echoed a similar stance, saying: “I haven't even paid it a thought.” The Catalan outfit gave the Madrid giant a guard of honor back in 2008 when Real Madrid entered El Clasico as league champion, but Barcelona is expectedly unwilling to repeat that.

These two giants will lock horns next Saturday with Messi and Co. boasting an 11-point lead over Cristiano and Co. Expect an exciting clash next weekend.
