Preview

Chelsea come into this match having suffered a shock defeat at the weekend. The Blues traveled to Crystal Palace, who are still bottom of the table, but now have the rather unwanted status of the first team not just to concede, but to lose to them. Prior to that game, Chelsea had won six out of their last eight trips to Selhurst Park and Crystal Palace were just one game away from making history as the first team to to lose nine consecutive games without finding the net.

Unfortunately, someone had to become the first team to allow them to score. And unfortunately, it was the reigning Premier League champions. That means that Antonio Conte's men have now lost two straight games, which sees them outside the top four, but there's no time for them to worry about that at the moment. At the very least, their Champions League campaign is running a lot more smoothly. Chelsea presently lead the group after defeating Atletico Madrid on matchday two in a hard-fought contest to secure a 2-1 road win.

Los Rojiblancos are definitely their biggest rivals for top spot in this quartet, and with Diego Simeone's men certain to pick up full points against Eastern European debutants Qarabag, Conte will expect his side to quickly forget their poor showing against Crystal Palace and turn their attention towards their game with Roma. This will see Antonio Rudiger pitted against his ex-teammates for the first time since making his move earlier this summer.

Chelsea are still missing key midfielder N'Golo Kante for this game, along with new signing Danny Drinkwater, and now Victor Moses is out after suffering an injury during the loss to Crystal Palace. However, the team has received some great news, with Alvaro Morata back in training much earlier than expected. The hosts are viewed as the heavy favorites to earn all three points against Roma, who have a poor record against English sides on the road, although they did manage to earn a surprise draw with Manchester City back in 2014.

Roma also come into this game having lost domestically, a 1-0 result against Napoli. The Giallorossi also have some absentees, with Patrik Schick, Kostas Manolas, Gregoire Defrel and Emerson Palmieri all out, whilst Stephan El Shaarawy and Kevin Strootman are doubtful for this game.
