Under Heynckes, who is back for his fourth spell with the Bavarian titans, Bayern became the first team to win the Treble, but first they will need to close the gap on Dortmund, who are now five points clear, whilst trying to stay ahead of Hoffenheim and even RB Leipzig, who are just one point behind.
Unfortunately, the hosts will still have to make do without star shot-stopper Manuel Neuer after he suffered another injury set-back. Franck Ribery is also out due to a knee injury. Borussia Dortmund have made a strong start to the season. With 21 goals and just two conceded, Peter Bosz's side have the best attack and the best defense, albeit this impressive performance hasn't translated over into the Champions League. With a five point lead over the chasing pack, including reigning champions Bayern Munich, regardless of whatever happens in this fixture against RB Leipzig, they will still be on top of the league table. That being said, they will obviously not want to end their unbeaten run thus far, which has seen them win six and draw just one of their first seven games, and they are unbeaten in their last 37 home fixtures.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig, who surprised everyone to finish second last term, have begun their sophomore term in German football's top flight off on a solid foot as well. Die Bullen sit in fouth, and whilst, they, too haven't gotten up and running in the Champions League, they now can welcome back key midfielder Naby Keita from a three match domestic ban to bolster things in the middle of the park whilst striker Timo Werner makes his return from injury.
