Re-match of the 2013/2014 Champions League semi-final at Atletico Madrid's new stadium

The last time Chelsea and Atletico Madrid met, it was during the 2013/2014 Champions League semi-final. Interestingly enough, Fernando Torres and Thibaut Courtois were playing for the Blues and Los Rojiblancos respectively. Flash-forward four years later and they now have switched sides.

History aside, these two teams are quite familiar with each other, and both tacticians certainly also will be quite familiar with each others' work. Atleti are unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions and presently sit in second spot in LaLiga after earing a hard-fought 2-0 win over Sevilla this past weekend. The fact that they've managed to keep a clean sheet in 18 of their last 22 home matches in this competition is quite an impressive feat considering some of the opposition they have welcomed along the way, and with pretty much a full-strength squad available, it goes without saying that Chelsea could face a tough test to breach Atleti's famous mean back-line.

Los Rojiblancos ended up having to settle for a frustrating scoreless draw with Roma on matchday one and naturally will be looking to get off the mark, but Chelesa are no slouches defensively themselves. The Blues cruised to a very comfortable 6-0 win over debutants Qarabag and come into this game having won six out of their last seven fixtures across all competitions. That includes a 4-0 drubbing of Stoke City, during which new signing Alvaro Morata netted his first-ever hat-trick for the club, and Conte only has Danny Drinkwater out as a definite absentee, whilst David Luiz's wrist injury could make him a slight doubt for this upcoming fixture.

Chelsea presently sit top of this quartet, but naturally will know this clash presents a much sterner exam than that they faced at Stamford Bridge against Qarabag. Will either side be able to find a breakthrough in the first ever Champions League showdown at Atleti's new home ground?
