Bartomeu's stint as Barca president could end soon

Motion to remove Barcelona's president could be ready in 45 days

September 14, 2017 By Oscar Rojas
Agustí Benedito, former candidate to become Barca president, shared an update on the process to have Josep Maria Bartomeu removed from his charge.

Josep María Bartomeu's time as Barcelona president could be over soon, as a motion to see him leave his charge has already gathered 40% of the associates signatures to make him leave the club.

In a press conference held earlier today, former presidential candidate Agustí Benedito shared an update on the motion to censor Bartomeu as Barcelona's top exec, revealing that the harshly criticized president has reasons to doubt about his job.

"We've gathered 7,278 signatures so far. We are exceeding our initial expectations. Bartomeu has to be nervous, because his term as Barcelona president could be over in 45 days," Benedito stated.

Agustí Benedito (left) has been one of many Barcelona associates to criticize Bartomeu's policies on transfers and the general handling of the team's interests.

According to Barcelona's bylaws, a motion to censor the current president will force the exec to call for a vote to elect a new president. Those bylaws forbid a censored president to compete in that election, hence, Bartomeu's presidency would come to an end.

Speaking about the team's current affairs, Benedito had a special request for two of the team's iconic players, even if they disagree with the club's president.

"I'd ask Messi and Iniesta to sign their contract extensions, for the benefit of the club. I know the may not listen, but it's for the best, even if they don't like how this board likes to do business," Benedito concluded.
