The Citizens spent the most money by any club in a transfer window in the summer of 2017.

Man City’s problematic history with Financial Fair Play could spark back to life, as UEFA have been asked to look into the Premier League giants’ crazy spending. This comes after the Citizens splashed a staggering £215m in the summer transfer window alone.

The request to investigate Guardiola’s side came from La Liga, as president Javier Tebas asked European football’s governing body to look into not only Man City’s spending, but PSG’s as well. Tebas told The Associated Press that the English and French clubs’ spending has paved the way for the currently inflated transfer market.

The finances of the Abu Dhabi-funded club and Qatari-owned side are controversial. Tebas argues that their "funding by state-aid distorts European competitions and creates an inflationary spiral that is irreparably harming the football industry".

Tebas is not the only figure to voice worry about PSG’s ties with Qatar. Upon signing Neymar, Arsene Wenger pointed the finger at states owning clubs for the Brazilian’s astronomical fee.

Les Parisiens smashed the transfer record when they bought the former Barca superstar for £200m. Unai Emery’s side then signed Kylian Mbappe for £165.7m. PSG escaped breaching FFP rules by signing the French teenager on loan ahead of his permanent deal next year, meaning his fee will be paid in 2018.

As a result, the Ligue 1 giants are already under investigation. Man City, who broke the record for most money spent in a single window over the summer, could soon find themselves under inquiry as well.

The Etihad side made a number of expensive signings, namely Kyle Walker for £50m and Benjamin Mendy for £52m. The Citizens also signed Ederson for £35m and Danilo for £27m.
