80 coaches voted on who were the best players in Europe last season, and they chose Gianluigi Buffon, Lionel Messi; and Cristiano Ronaldo as their top three. Only those three names can compete for the prize on Thursday.

The likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Sergio Ramos narrowly missed out on the top three after guiding Los Blancos to a 12th Champions League title. Paulo Dybala, who guided Juventus to a runners-up finish, came in at sixth.
