Re-match of the 2015 Supercoppa Italiana set to take place in the Eternal City

Juventus

The Bianconeri ended up losing the 2016 edition to AC Milan, and having lost the 2017 Champions League final, Massimiliano Allegri's men will be eager to start off the 2017/2018 Serie A campaign on the right footing. Juventus had less than stellar pre-season, with just one win against PSG, whilst they suffered defeats to Tottenham and Barcelona and narrowly edged out Roma on penalties. They also lost key defenders Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci to PSG and AC Milan, but brought in promising talent Federico Bernadeschi from Fiorentina, speedy winger Douglas Costa from Bayern Munich, experienced goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny from Roma, and AC Milan defender Mattia De Sciglio, whilst acquiring Mehdi Benatia and Juan Cuadrado on a permanent basis from Bayern and Chelsea respectively.

With that in mind, Allegri's side are viewed as the heavy favorites to come out on top in this fixture, but Lazio are not a side to be taken lightly, especially considering that the Biancocelesti will be gunning for revenge after losing their last Supercoppa Italiana meeting, which took place in 2015 in Shanghai, courtesy of goals from then-new signings Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic.

Lazio

Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi's Lazio were beaten by Juventus in last season's Coppa Italia final, but had a quite solid pre-season. In fact, the Biancocelesti won all of their warm-up fixtures, including against Malaga and Bayer Leverkusen. However, the team have opted to exclude key striker Keita Balde Diao for this clash, with the Senagelese still trying to force a move away to Juventus before the end of this summer's transfer market.

Last season, Lazio, who started off well, ended on a rather disappointing note. Three straight losses saw Inzaghi's side slump into fifth place, but they will feature in the Europa League for the upcoming term. Certainly, having lost the Coppa Italia final to Juventus, and given that they will be playing, in essence, on home turf, they surely will want to kick-start the new campaign with a win, but obviously, that will be much easier said than done.

Still, football is quite unpredictable, and anything indeed is possible. This represents the first chance at silverware in Italy, and it willl be very interesting to see who will come out on top on Sunday evening.
