It's August, and that means that all of the leagues around Europe are starting to get underway. Ligue 1 has already kicked off and the Primeira Liga is set to follow suit shortly.
Reigning champs will aim to successfully defend their league title yet again and, as expected, Rui Vitoria's side will be challenged by Porto and Sporting CP, the other two members of Portugal's "Big Three".

Primeira Liga - Matchday 1 overview
As always, there are two new sides hoping to avoid the drop this season. Chaves and Feirense were promoted from the second tier last term, and it remains to be seen if they will successfully stay afloat in the top flight. Meanwhile, Benfica have won the last four titles in a row and will be seeking to make it a fifth on the trot. Their journey will start with a clash against Sporting Braga on August 9th.
