Match Facts & Stats

  • The last meeting (2016) between the two sides saw Bayern thrash Inter 4-1
  • Die Roten also won the prior meeting (2015), 1-0 over the Nerazzurri
  • However, when it comes to the UCL, Inter have won two out of their last three meetings
  • That includes the famous 2010 Champions League final, during which Inter became the first - and only so far - Italian side to win the Treble

Both teams aiming to build on wins from prior game

Bayern Munich

After a difficult start, Bayern seem to be finally finding their footing. Carlo Ancelotti's side were shockingly humiliated 4-0 by AC Milan, but rebounded well to defeat Chelsea, albeit that game wasn't without its share of flaws. Whilst Thomas Muller showed glimpses of the old Muller by grabbing a brace, some defensive lapses allowed the Blues to get back in the game, and die Roten barely hung on to secure all three points in a 3-2 win.

With Liverpool set to come up next in the annual Audi Cup, it goes without saying that die Roten will be seeking to conclude business in Asia on a good note before returning to Germany at the end of this month.

Inter

Meanwhile, Inter labored somewhat against Lyon, but a goal from Stevan Jovetic, who has been linked with a move away, was enough to decide proceedings and give the Nerazzurri all three points. Luciano Spalletti's side, who finished in a rather disappointing seventh last term are out of European competition for the upcoming campaign, and unlike cross-town rivals AC Milan, have been very quiet in this summer's transfer market. This naturally has fans quite concerned about the club's ambitions and so Inter will be hoping to prove any doubters wrong with a strong pre-season as the Nerazzurri aim to adequately prepare to bounce back after their disappointing 2015/2016 term.
