It's been a tough tournament so far for the USMNT. First, Bruce Arena's men were unable to get the better of Panama and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. And then, in their second group stage game against minnows Martinique, the Stars and Stripes nearly fumbled a 2-0 lead to drop vital points. Fortunately for the home crowd, the Yanks managed to hang on - albeit barely - to secure a 3-2 win in what was a highly entertaining second half for fans and neutrals alike.
With Panama winning their game against Nicaragua, it's going to be a battle for top spot. Both teams are level on four points, and surely cannot discount Martinique, who are determined to stay in the race and are on three points, despite losing to the USA on Wednesday.
Nicaragua
Their upcoming opponents, Nicaragua are already out of the tournament after losing to Martinique and then Panama. That being said, they surely will want to restore some modicum of pride after trying valiantly to match wits with Panama, but despite taking the lead, it was not enough to prevent them from succumbing to a 2-1 loss. This will be the first ever meeting between the USMNT and Nicaragua, but many are expecting the Stars and Stripes to assert themselves and book their spot in the next round.
