The German ace's contract expires next summer, but the north London outfit have been handed positive news by the player himself.

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their hopes of winning the Premier League next season. The Gunners are now destined to retain star playmaker Mesut Ozil for the 2017/18 campaign.

The German ace is one of two Arsenal stars – Alexis Sanchez is the other – whose contracts expire next summer. The World Cup winner has been locked in contract negotiations with the Gunners but there has been no word on an extension.

Rumors claims that both Ozil and the former Barca attacker had their mind set on an Emirates Stadium exit. The disaster that was last season saw the north London outfit finish outside the top four – and fail to qualify for the Champions League – for the first time under Wenger’s reign.

The Assist King, however, has put those rumors to rest. Currently in Sydney with Arsenal on their pre-season tour, the 28-year-old told reporters (as per the Express) that his preference is to stay in north London.

"It is definitely my preference to stay,” Ozil said. “It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal.”

Mesut even revealed when he plans on sitting with the Arsenal board to get his new deal done and dusted. "Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss about the future. For now the most important thing is our preseason and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness. When I'm back in London, we will sit down and discuss."

Although Ozil’s future appears to be settled, the same can’t be said about Alexis. The Chilean continues to be linked with a move to Man City, a transfer that would put a knife in Arsenal’s heart.
