The Spanish boss admitted he could have done a better job if his team hadn't struggled with a number of injuries to some key players.

Pep Guardiola stepped up and analyzed his first season as Manchester City's tactician, hinting that somehow, his predecessor's squad choices caused hiim to end a season without silverware for the first time in his career.

Without revealing the names of those players that hurt his tactics, Pep put the blame on Pellegrini's transfer business, stating that some of those footballers weren't able to adapt to his versatile tactics.

“They're good players, but you have to rejuvenate the team. It was a team that was very successful, but it had outgrown itself. It was one of the oldest teams in the Premier League. Now Txiki [Begiristain, City's sporting director] is trying to make the necessary changes to strengthen the team," Pep told L'Esportiu.

Guardiola went on and took pride of the team's transfer business under his supervision, as key elements arrived under his watch.

"We rejuvenated it with Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane, and we'll continue to do so. I always wondered what would have happened if all year we'd had Vincent Kompany, Jesus and Gundogan fit," Guardiola added.

The Catalan boss disappointed many supporters after not being able to lead the Sky Blues to any trophies last season.

The former Barcelona tactician admitted that pressure to have him sacked will build up if he can't lead the team to silverware this season.

"If this goes wrong, I will be out. I am here to achieve results, but the every day here the process of working is easy, because we understand each other," Pep concluded.
