Move over Ozil; the German won’t be the Gunners’ most expensive signing for long.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette is no kept secret. The Gunners are eager to bring the French forward onboard, and they now appear to have won the race to sign the striker.

The north London outfit have reportedly agreed a deal for the 26-year-old forward, as per the Daily Mail. The Lyon striker will be a Gooner in the next 48 hours in what will be a new club-record transfer fee.

Lacazette will reportedly cost the FA Cup holders £44m in a rumored five-year deal. This means the Frenchman will surpass the record Ozil set with his £42.5m move from Real Madrid to the Emirates.

Wenger had to surpass the fee paid for the German World Cup winner in order to bolster his attack. This comes after an initial bid worth £39.5m was rejected by Lyon earlier this summer.

Lacazette, who has been with Lyon since the start of his career, bagged 37 times in 45 appearances last season. In 275 games for the Ligue 1 giants, the 26-year-old has scored 129 goals.

Signing Lacazette could mean Wenger has given up hope on Mbappe. The Monaco youngster is highly-sought after by the richest clubs, and only a world-record fee would do the trick.
