Match facts

  • After the 3-2 loss to Germany, Australia have now lost their last four Confederations Cup games in a row.
  • One more defeat for the Soccerooos and they will tie Saudi Arabia’s record of five consecutive defeats in the tournament.
  • Australia can grab their first Confederations Cup win since their third-place triumph over Brazil in 2001.
  • The Indomitable Lions are in dead last due to their worse goal difference.

Preview

Being drawn in the same group as Chile and Germany meant Cameroon and Australia were going to be the favorites to crash out early. This is the case after the opening round: the Indomitable Lions and the Socceroos are at the bottom without a single point.

This will be the first ever competitive meeting between these two countries. The African champions must improve in front of goal if they wish the beat the Asian champions.

Against Chile, Cameroon lost 2-0. The Indomitable Lions are expected to feature an identical starting eleven, with Hugo Broos praising his side’s performance despite the defeat.

Australia must maintain their attacking threat from the opening day without conceding as many goals as they did against Germany. Tim Cahill could lead the Socceroos attack, meaning he could become the competition’s second oldest goalscorer should he find the back of the net.
