World Cup champions Germany will be looking to add another trophy to their cabinet this summer. LiveSoccerTV.com takes a look at Germany's squad and who they will be facing in the group stages.

Reigning World Cup champions Germany will be hoping to become only the third team (after Italy and Brazil) in history to successfully defend their world title next year in Russia. Die Mannschaft, naturally will also aim to warm-up for the big tournament next year by winning what would be their first Confederations Cup title, but they could face some stiff competition from EURO 2016 winners Portugal, Copa America champions Chile, and AFCON winners Cameroon.

Let's take a look at what is in store for Germany ahead of the 2017 Confederations Cup, set to kick off on Monday, June 19th with a clash against Australia.

Germany's Confederations Cup record

Germany's best finish at the Confederations Cup was third place in 2005. This will be the third appearance for die Mannschaft, who made their debut in the 1999 edition, during which they ended up bowing out during the group stage.

Germany's current form

Die Mannschaft are currently placed third in the world as per FIFA's rankings, which makes them the highest-ranked team taking part in this competition. Joachim Löw's men come into this game having cruised to a comfortable 7-0 win over minnows San Marino in World Cup qualifying, and prior to that, Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich's goal was enough to secure a 1-1 draw with Denmark in a friendly. In fact, Germany haven't lost a match since going down 2-0 to France in the EURO 2016 semi-finals last July.

However, Germany's squad is missing quite a few familiar faces. There's no room for Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller, nor his club colleague Mats Hummels. Another notable absentee is Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, whilst Manuel Neuer is out due to injury. Still, there are some names fans will be familiar with, including PSG duo Kevin Trapp and Julian Draxler, Barcelona's Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Roma's Antonio Rudiger, Manchester City's Leroy Sane, and Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi. Meanwhile, Leipzig's Timo Werner will be looking to make a splash after a strong season with die Bullen in their debut Bundesliga campaign.

Germany's Confederations Cup 2017 roster

Here is Germany's squad for the upcoming Confederations Cup:

Goalkeepers: Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (Barcelona), Kevin Trapp (PSG)

Defenders: Matthias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund), Jonas Hector (Cologne), Benjamin Henrichs (Bayer Leverkusen), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal), Marvin Plattenhardt (Hertha Berlin), Antonio Rudiger (Roma), Niklas Sule (Hoffenheim)

Midfielders: Julian Draxler (PSG), Leon Goretzka (Schalke), Kerem Demirbay (Hoffenheim), Lars Stindl (Borussia Monchengladbach), Emre Can (Liverpool), Amin Younes (Ajax), Leroy Sane (Manchester City), Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen), Sebastian Rudy (Hoffenheim)

Forwards: Sandro Wagner (Hoffenheim), Timo Werner (Leipzig)

The man on the tactician's bench

Having won the World Cup in 2014, Joachim Löw needs little introduction. The former midfielder guided die Mannschaft all the way to the final, making Germany the first European team to win a World Cup in either North or South America. He will be eager to add a Confederations Cup to his trophy collection after Germany's disappointing semi-finals exit at EURO 2016.
