Here's how Mexico and the USA stack up ahead of tonight's game

Never just a match between bitter rivals Mexico and the USA

Mexico

The hosts come into this game in good form. Despite losing 2-1 during a friendly clash with Croatia, Mexico have won when it really counts and currently boast a five point lead on top of their World Cup qualifying group. El Tri cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Honduras ahead of this crunch tie and boast a formidable record on their home turf.

Whilst Mexico will still remain on top of their group, regardless of tonight's result, they will not be keen on dropping points - especially against the USA. Furthermore, Juan Carlos Osorio will not want to put on a bad display in front of the home crowd, but with the Confederations Cup coming up soon, he may opt to rotate his squad somewhat to keep everyone fresh for the trip to Russia.

USMNT

Meanwhile, the USA continue their revival under Bruce Arena. Christian Pulisic had an excellent evening, as his brace was enough to dispatch Trinidad & Tobago and keep the Stars and Stripes in the running for second place. Clint Dempsey, meanwhile, was unable to score, and looked visibly annoyed at being substituted out during the last game; however, he'll be expected to start this one.

And the stage is set for him to become the team's all-time top goalscorer, but what better way to do so than to score against the USMNT's bitter southern rivals - in Mexico? For the visitors, it's a must they get something out of this game, especially with Panama hot on their tails and Honduras not out of the running just yet.
