In a brief announcement, president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed that the former Athletic boss will address the media on Thursday.

After weeks of rumors and negotiations, Ernesto Valverde has finally been announced as Barcelona's new boss. The 53-year old boss had spent the last four seasons as Athletic Club's manager, where he won the 2015 Spanish Super Cup against Los Blaugranas.

Valverde had previously worked with four Spanish teams as a coach. Athletic, Espanyol, Villarreal and Valencia complete Valverde's La Liga resume, mixing it up a bit by coaching Olympiakos in two different time frames (2008-2009 and 2010-2012).

Barça president Josep María Bartomeu shared details of the negotiation and the extension of Valverde's contract.

"We kept it close to the chest out of respect to his former club, and given the fact that we were still fighting to win titles. Ernesto is really excited about this opportunity, and he'll come here to sign his contract on Wednesday. He'll sign for two years, which can be extended one more year depending on his success," Bartomeu stated.

Valverde fits the bill when it comes to the profile Barcelona's execs were looking for. The former footballer played for Los Blaugranas for two seasons, but his constant injuries saw him play only 22 times, scoring eight goals in the process.

Aside from his Super Cup win with Los Leones de San Mamés, Valverde hasn't won any other titles in the Spanish top flight.
