There are three things PSG will achieve by winning the Coupe de France. First, it will be the third trophy this season for debut manager Unai Emery after winning the Coupe de la Ligue and the Trophée des Champions. Second, Les Parisiens could become the second team since Lille to win three on the trot; Les Dogues clinched three in a row from 1946-1948. And third, they can overtake Marseille for the most trophies won in this competition as both are tied on 10 wins each.
Despite this, many PSG fans will feel disappointed with the team's season. For starters, they were unable to defend their Ligue 1 title, as Monaco had a very impressive term to finally end Les Parisiens' hold on the domestic crown. The club also made a rather unwanted piece of history as they became the first team to be dumped out of the Champions League after winning the first leg 4-0. Their capitulation against Barcelona wasn't without its share of controversy, but the fact of the matter is, PSG were hoping to make major inroads in Europe's premier club competition after coming up short in the past few terms.
Emery's job is reportedly up in the air after failing to win Ligue 1 and their Champions League disaster. The experienced Spanish tactician could certainly save face by at least winning this, especially as PSG are by far the heavy favorites for this trophy as the reigning champions.
Angers
Meanwhile, Angers are in the finals for the first time in their history. Stéphane Moulin's side ended up finishing in a solid but not spectacular 12th, but overall will be very satisfied with their season. They are by far the underdogs here but surely will not want to just roll over without a fight, but all in all, it will take a huge effort and a shocking collapse by PSG for Angers to come out on top in Saturday's match.
