Bayern Munich and Barcelona’s habit of haunting north London in the Champions League may not stop with Arsenal. The Gunners failed to qualify for next season’s tournament, but it could be Tottenham who face the two European giants.
The seedings for next season’s group stage draw has have been confirmed, and it puts Mauricio Pochettino’s side at a disadvantage. Despite finishing second in the Premier League, Harry Kane and Co. will be put in pot three.
In pot one are the champions of the Europe’s domestic leagues: Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Monaco, and Spartak Moscow. The reserved pot one spot held for the Champions League winners was awarded to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Pot two will consist of Barcelona, Atletico, PSG, Man City, Borussia Dortmund, Porto and Man United, if they beat Ajax to win the Europa League. Sevilla could join this group if they emerge out of the playoffs triumphant.
This means Tottenham could be grouped against both Bayern Munich and Barca, or Real Madrid and PSG. Fortunately, the north London outfit will be bumped up to pot two if Mourinho’s men lose the Europa League final and thus fail to qualify for the Champions League.
If Liverpool qualify for the group stage, they will also land in pot three. In the fourth and last pot will be all the other qualifying clubs.
