On Saturday, Man City hosted Leicester City in one of the highly-anticipated games of the weekend. With the race for a top-four finish being tights, everyone was watching this game to see whether the Citizens would slip-up or not.
Pep Guardiola’s men managed to grab a narrow 2-1 win, a result which will do wonders for their Champions League hopes. Silva’s opener and Gabriel Jesus’ strike were enough to see off last season’s Premier League winners.
However, Leicester could have walked away with a point had it not been for Riyad Mahrez. The visitors were awarded a second-half penalty which would have put the game level had the Algerian converted from the spot.
Mahrez was brought down by Gael Clichy in the penalty box, with the Foxes being awarded a spot kick. Mahrez stepped up, but a slip saw his effort ruled out.
Last season’s PFA Player of the Year slipped and thus kicked the ball into his standing foot. The ball deflected into the back of the net, but the referee spotted the two touches and dismissed Mahrez’s goal
77 - Mahrez slips as he takes the penalty, scores it, but touches the ball twice before it goes in. No goal. Man City lead 2-1 still #MncLei

Many were unhappy by Mahrez’s blunder, none more than Arsenal fans. Gooners were hoping to see Man City slip-up in order to aid the north London outfit’s late push for a top-four finish, but were left disappointed. The Gunners’ biggest hope is Liverpool losing at West Ham on Sunday.
Lol.

Incredible refereeing Bobby Madley. pic.twitter.com/CCvlimZgwp
10 years of #LFC luck summed up in a botched Mahrez penalty in a match we shouldn't even be watching as it's in our own untrustworthy hands.

This Mahrez penalty is just a preview of the agony we will be put through over the next two weeks

Mahrez 16/17 is a disgrace to Mahrez 15/16

Mahrez there summing up his entire season with one penalty kick.

Given the wording of the law the referee is correct to disallow Mahrez's penalty but clearly not what the law was written for. #pedant
