It’s sadly official: this will be the last season iconic attacker Francesco Totti plays for boyhood club AS Roma. The 40-year-old Italian will thus be calling an end to career that spanned 25 years.
With his contract set to expire this summer, new sporting director Monchi announced that the player would hang his boots to become a director at the very same club.
“In terms of Totti, I already knew that there was an agreement with the club that this would be his final year as a player, then he’d start as a director,” said Monchi.
Ahead of Totti’s last game, we take a look at four amazing facts about the Italian.

There have been four United States presidents since Totti’s debut
The 40-year-old made his senior debut in 1993, the year that Bill Clinton was sworn in as the 42nd president. Fast forward to now, and the U.S. has Trump as their 45th Commander in Chief.
When Francesco was named captain
That honor was given to the Italian in October 31, 1998. To put that into perspective, Kylian Mbappe was less than two months away from being born when Totti was given the skipper’s armband.
When he became Roma top-scorer
Il Gladiatore is Roma’s all-time leading scorer – he is even the second-highest scorer in Serie A history. But when did he become the club’s record scorer? In 2004, when Facebook was established – that is 13 years ago.
