Atletico Madrid are gearing up for a highly-anticipated clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League. A lot is at stake for Diego Simeone’s men, as they have two defeats in finals to Los Blancos to avenge when they lock horns in the semi-final.
Unfortunately, Los Rojiblancos’ shot at winning was rocked by a huge injury blow. Atletico will take on the Champions League holders without Jose Gimenez.
The Spaniard picked up a knock over the weekend during the 5-0 win over Las Palmas. A Kevin-Prince Boateng challenge in the 25th minute forced the 22-year-old off the pitch.
Atletico later confirmed that the player suffered an adductor muscle injury. This could sideline Gimenez for approximately three weeks.

This means the defender will miss the first-leg clash with Zidane’s men. Simeone will have a selection head for the right-back slot, with Sime Vrsaljko and Juanfran Torres also out.
El Cholo has two options – either the Argentine will play young defender Lucas Hernandez, or copy his tactics from Saturday and bring midfielder Thomas Partey to replace Gimenez.
