More than just three points at stake for Barcelona in Catalan Derby

Espanyol

The hosts may have failed to win their last two games, but they will have added impetus to cause problems for Barcelona - especially considering that it's the Catalan Derby. Furthermore, Espanyol have a pretty strong home record. They have lost just two out of their last eight games at this ground, and their recent defeat to Atletico Madrid marked the first time they have failed to score at home since the start of this year.

As things stand, Quique Sanchez Flores's squad have nothing to play for. They're not in danger of relegation. Nor do they have a shot at qualifying for the Europa or Champions League. The best they can hope for is to remain in the top half of the table. And that is what could make them a potential banana peel for Barcelona, especially considering how tight LaLiga's title race has become and will be until the end of this campaign.

Barcelona

After losing 3-0 on aggregate to Juventus in the Champions League (including failing to score at Camp Nou), Barcelona rebounded brilliantly by defeating Real Madrid in last weekend's highly entertaining Clasico tie. They then followed that up by cruising to a very comfortable 7-1 win over Osasuna, which saw not only Javier Mascherano scoring his first ever goal for Barcelona, but also midfielder Andre Gomes netting a brace for the first time in his career.

Still, for Barcelona, Espanyol could represent a much trickier foe than the already-relegated Osasuna. Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta were among those rested for the game, but whilst Suarez is expected to return to the fold for this match, Iniesta will play no part due to fitness problems that caused him to miss training. In addition, the Catalan powerhouse have received a huge boost, with Neymar back from his three-match ban, and as they are playing after Real Madrid's clash with Valencia, will have a very good idea of how the table looks ahead of this game.

All in all, the Blaugrana do appear to be getting back on track after their disappointing showing in the Champions League as they want to at least send outgoing coach Luis Enrique off with some silverware in hand. Will they be able to get the better of their cross-town rivals in order to stay on top of LaLiga's table after this round?
