The Swedish striker is due for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.

If you are a fan of Manchester United, odds are two things are on your mind: will the Red Devils finish in the top four and will Zlatan Ibrahimovic ever play in Old Trafford again.

The Swedish striker hurt his knee during the Europe League triumph over Anderlecht, forcing Mourinho to fret over the fitness of his top-scorer. The 35-year-old’s season is over, and now his Man United career faces the same fate.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia, the former PSG ace is headed to the USA for an operation on his injured right knee. The worry is that Zlatan has suffered multiple ligament damage.

Ibrahimovic is due to be operated on this Wednesday by Doctor Freddy H. Fu, a knee specialist. Although no return date has been announced, the forward could be facing a year on the sidelines.

The striker’s contract with the 20-time Premier League champions ends this season. Any hope of extending his stay is over, as he will likely miss the majority of the upcoming campaign.

Instead, Zlatan is eyeing a return to football in the States. Long has he been linked with a move to Major League Soccer, with his recent injury forcing his hand.
