The Brazilian ace was the only footballer considered in this countdown, which surprisingly snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Time magazine has shocked the world of football with their yearly "100 Most Influential People" list, as their two brightest stars were not included in this countdown.

The only footballer included in this list is Brazilian ace Neymar, who got his name in a list featuring sports celebrities such as Tom Brady and Lebron James. Other stand-out names include singer John Legend, actresses Viola Davis and Emma Stone, and politicians such as Vladimir Putin and U.S. president Donald Trump.

Neymar's article was written by none other than David Beckham, who surprisingly praised his "humility to learn from some of the game's biggest stars," which contrasts with the general feeling about Neymar being too eccentric.

"The pressure on him in Brazil at the 2014 World Cup and at last year's Rio Olympics was likely immense as he carried the hopes of a nation. But you would not have known it. He lives to play the game, and I imagine he approaches it now the same way he did as a boy," Beckham stated.

The former midfielder concluded his analysis stating that it's only a matter of time before the Brazilian maestro takes over as the best player in the world.

"Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have a new rival to that claim—and Neymar is ready to make his move," Beckham concludes.
