On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund host Monaco in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The next day will see a far more exciting clash between German rivals Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Unfortunately, the Bundesliga champions could be without star striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward picked up a shoulder injury in their last league game which looks set to rule him out of the Blancos clash.
Coincidentally, that injury occurred in a clash with none other than Lewandowski’s former side, BVB. This has led the player’s agent Maik Barthel to accuse Tuchel’s side of purposely injuring the talisman striker.
Speaking to Bild, Barthel said: “I got the feeling that Dortmund wanted to eliminate Robert at all costs.”
Lewandowski infamously left Signal Iduna Park in 2014 as a free agent in favor of an Allianz Arena switch. The player is destined to win his third Bundesliga crown in as many seasons with die Roten.
In Saturday’s clash with his former employees, the league leaders won 4-1, with Lewandowski bagging a brace against Dortmund. However, he was forced off the pitch after being fouled by opposition goalkeeper Roman Burki, one of several rough challenges Lewandowski faced that night.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc was quick to deny foul play from his side. He said: “This is absolute nonsense.
“Of course, it was a foul from Burki, but we always tried to keep Robert out of the game in a fair was.”
