'El Patón' wasn't able to steer La Albiceleste to safety in the World Cup Qualifiers. Jorge Sampaoli and Diego Simeone are in line to coach Messi & Co.

Argentina's World Cup Qualifying campaign has been disastrous, and a new controversy will rise after the Argentine Football Association(AFA) has decided to sack coach Edgardo Bauza after just eight games in charge.

"El Patón" took over after Gerardo Martino stepped down as manager due to financial problems within the Association. Martino decided to call it quits due to AFA's financial problems, which even caused the association to keep Martino and his staff without pay for six months.

Bauza took over as coach with La Albiceleste ranked third in the WC Qualifiers. Now, Lionel Messi's National Team is fifth, with their chances of making it to the 2018 World Cup in serious jeopardy.

Bauza (left) convinced Messi to return to the National Team after he announced his retirement.

"We've reached an agreement, we've told Bauza he's ceased to be the national team coach," AFA's president Claudio Tapia stated moments ago.

Spanish sources indicate Jorge Sampaoli and Diego Simeone are the top candidates to take over as the tea's new coach. Sampaoli has stated his desire to coach La Albiceleste before, while Simeone seems reluctant due to some political issues within the Argentinean Football Association.
