Match Facts & Stats

  • Although Roma and Lazio share the Stadio Olimpico, the Giallorossi are designated as the "home" team for this match
  • The Lupi are undefeated in 18 of their last 20 home matches against Lazio in all competitions
  • Lazio's win over Roma in the first leg was the first for the Biancocelesti since beating their city rivals 1-0 in the 2013 Coppa Italia final
  • The Aquile have managed to keep clean sheets in four out of their last six games across all competitions
  • Lazio have won their last three Coppa Italia games whilst scoring at least two goals per game during that period

Can Lazio again get the better of Roma in the Coppa Italia?

Roma

The "hosts" come into this game having defeated Empoli at the weekend, which marks their fourth straight win across all competitions. With his side out of the Europa League after narrowly losing 5-4 on aggregate to Lyon, and a seemingly insurmountable six points behind Juventus in the Scudetto race, Luciano Spalletti's sole chance at silverware appears to the the Coppa Italia.

However, they will have to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the first leg. This marked the first time Roma had lost to Lazio since May 26, 2013 in the Coppa Italia Final. Moreover, the Lupi have not lost two consecutive derby meetings against the Aquile since the 2011/2012 season, when they lost both "home" and "away" meetings with their bitter cross-town rivals. In terms of personnel, Spalletti will have pretty much everyone of note available, save for Alessandro Florenzi who is out for the rest of the season and Daniele De Rossi will have to pass a late fitness test to determine his availability.

Lazio

As for Simone Inzaghi's side, they have been in excellent form all season. The Biancocelesti currently find themselves in fourth spot, having won four out of their last five games, including a victory over Sassuolo this past weekend. Ciro Immobile recently celebrated hitting 50 goals in his Serie A career during that win, and has 18 to his name thus far for Lazio this term in the league plus an additional two in the Coppa Italia. Having finished in eighth spot last term, the Aquile are determined not to miss out on European football for the upcoming campaign, and with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, will certainly not want to give up a chance to take on either Napoli or Lazio in the Coppa Italia final.
