The Chilean striker scored the opening goal for La Roja, leading the way for one more victory in the South American Qualifiers.

Chile's chances of returning to the World Cup were boosted today by their win against Venezuela, and one of their players also had the chance to make history.

Alexis Sánchez scored a stunning free kick to lead Chile against La Vinotinto, which helped him reach Marcelo Salas' tally of 37 goals with La Roja. Arsenal's striker needed 108 games to do so, while Salas needed only 70 games to establish the record.

Have a look at Sanchez's golazo.

Unfortunately for Sánchez, he missed the chance to become Chile's all-time top scorer by himself, as he wasted a penalty kick when Chile led 3-1.
