The English players were on international duty when this injury happened.

Club managers can be forgiven for despising international breaks. Players have to depart from their teams for the national side, with injuries whilst on national duty always being a risk.

Play has been halted in Europe’s leagues in order to focus on friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. A game has not been played, but Man United have already been hit with an injury to one of their players.

According to the Sun, that man is none other than Phil Jones. The Red Devils defender picked up this knock during training ahead of their clash with Germany.

To make things worse, the man who inflicted this injury on Jones was a Man United team-mate. The report claims Chris Smalling stubbed his buddy’s toe, forcing him out of international duty.

The Three Lions, under Gareth Southgate, will be playing two games during this break. The first is a friendly, while the last will see them lock horns with Lithuani in a World Cup qualifier. Jones will have to watch those games from home.

Jones should be back in action soon, but the fact that a Man United player picked up an injury this early into the break could be worrying for club managers.
