These coaches started their rivalry even before Guardiola coached his first competitive match at Bayern. Will he continue to struggle against Klopp on Sunday?

It is been less than three months since the last time Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp battled each other, and now, the Spanish boss desperately needs a win to keep his future linked to Manchester City. One more loss for Pep after his earliest UEFA Champions League elimination, and his bosses may start wondering if he is the right man for the job.

A win for Liverpool would help the Reds leapfrog Man City in the EPL title race, with their hopes set on a loss by Tottenham to let them finish the weekend as the tournament's second-place holders. Nevertheless, Klopp's teams have not been as lucky as expected when hosting Guardiola's sides.

Let us have a closer look at their stats, so we can give you a better idea of what we are talking about.

Overall record

Jurgen Klopp has the edge over Pep Guardiola. In their previous nine games, Klopp's teams have walked away with the win five times, leaving Pep with four wins. Their last game in Germany ended up in a draw, but the yellow-and-black won the tie after a penalty shootout, granting the German boss one more win.

The German boss started the fire burning between himself and Guardiola since January 2013, when he stated he "wanted to become Guardiola's new Mourinho."

Guardiola hosting Klopp's teams

Excluding games that were played at a neutral venue, this will be the third match where Pep Guardiola has played the role of host. His luck doesn't seem to change regardless of the venue, as he has won only one of those games, a 2-1 victory back in November 2014. On the other hand, Klopp's away win gave him his biggest win against Guardiola back when Borussia Dortmund claimed bragging rights by beating Pep's crew 3-0 at Allianz Arena on April 12, 2014.

Guardiola won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern, but he always struggled when battling Klopp's teams.
