The club’s president revealed this surprising fact during an interview.

After Chapecoense lost the majority of their squad to a tragic plane clash, the entire football community joined in solidarity for the Brazilian club. Several top European sides offered to help the club, with a minute of silence being held in honor of the deceased.

Despite all the pledges of assistance, club president Plinio David de Nes revealed that only one team financially assisted the Copa Sudamericana winners. They were none other than Barcelona.

“Only Barcelona were on our side from the very first moment,” Nes told Fox Sport

“They offered us funds and in the month of August we have been invited to play the Gamper Trophy, with the proceeds shared with Chapecoense.”

The president also expressed gratitude towards Roma after the Italian club offered to face the Brazilian club in a friendly. Chapecoense turned it down due to a packed schedule.
