The two European giants were paired against each other at an early stage – let’s be honest, this would have been a perfect tie for the final. Nonetheless, there are several reasons to be happy about this matchup.

The master takes on his famous apprentice

In 2014, Carlo Ancelotti led Real Madrid to their 10th Champions League title. The Italian received tremendous praise for winning guiding the Spanish giants to La Decima despite being sacked shortly afterwards.

However, to the side of Carletto was Zinedine Zidane, the very passionate assistant coach who barked orders to the players. The French legend has since taken over Les Merengues, winning a Champions League in his debut season as first-team boss.

Ancelotti is in his first season as manager since taking a sabbatical. It will be interesting to see who comes out victorious in this game: the master or his very talented pupil.

The last time these two clubs met, Real Madrid scored five. In 22 meetings in Europe, they have scored a combined tally of 64 goals. Bayern scored 10 in the round of 16. Expect goals to be scored.

Bayern and Real Madrid have faced 22 times in Europe. Coincidentally, they are both tied at 10 wins each, with two previous meetings ending in draws. A win in their quarter-final tie will earn bragging rights.

Los Blancos will face die Roten on April 12 then the 23rd of that same month. In between those two games is El Clasico, with Real Madrid hosting bitter rivals Barcelona. This means fans could be in for the best 11 days of the season.
