Liverpool and Arsenal will go head-to-head in a highly-anticipated Premier League clash this weekend, with more up for grabs than simply three points. A win will boost any of the two clubs’ Champions League hopes, whilst a defeat will have the opposite effect.
Qualifying – or failing to qualify – for Europe’s top-tier club completion could have grave implications on either club. One is their ability to sign Ligue 1 goalscoring machine Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunner have long been linked with the French ace, behind only Edinson Cavani in the top-scorer chart. With Alexis Sanchez tipped to leave north London over the summer, the Lyon striker is one of many lined up to replace the Chilean.
But Wenger’s side will face competition from the Reds. According to the Mirror, the Merseyside giants are ready to challenge Arsenal for Lacazette’s signature. The 25-year-old attacker is ready for a new challenge, with the Premier League his preferred destination.
Jurgen Klopp is planning drastic changes to his squad during the summer which could see Daniel Sturridge leave. This will happen in a speculated summer spending spree which will see Liverpool sign 5-6 major players, including RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
Liverpool have been tracking Lacazette for the last three years. However, they know a failure to qualify for the Champions League will kill off any chance of landing the Frenchman.
