La Liga giants Real Madrid were on the verge of losing their league clash against Villarreal but a thrilling comeback in the second half saw them dismiss the hosts 3-2. The hosts had taken an early lead through Trigueros and Makambos in the second-half, but a the magic of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morate ensured the visitors returned to the Santiago Bernabeu with maximum points.
Los Blancos have still maintained their one-point lead over rivals Barcelona, who beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at the Vincente Calderon. But the Champions League still have one game in hand (against Celta Vigo) which gives them a chance to open a four-point gap.
